khat: Is it legal to use ?

I’m a little bit confused there are countries that khat is legal and there are countries that its not.

In countries like Germany, Egypt and U.S it is illegal.

On the other hand in Britain, Israel and a few Arab countries it’s legal.

Yes, there are prohibited substances in the plant called Cathinone and Cathine, dosage of those ingredients is very very low and it is totally different then any other drugs, influence is really not as ecstasy or salvia for example.

If you are chewing khat a few hours,yes, you are more focused and concentrated but as I said it is totally different then any other drugs.

So why khat  illegal in United States?

The khat is illegal because of the two substances which are classified as controlled substances in the US – Cathinone and Cathine.

Bringing Khat into America carries the same sentencing as bringing in cocaine or heroin.

In Britain the khat is legal; you can be buy it in specialist market stalls for around £10 a bunch.

In the U.S, bunches of Khat sell for 10 times their UK price.

Organized gangs in Britain are making £150 m a year smuggling Khat into the States.

Many young British were arrested in trying to smuggle it in to the U.S.

The U.S law is taking a hard line against people who smuggle it in to the U.S and they can get up to 20 years in prison for that.

Khat In Yemen

In Yemen it’s not a drug…it’s a culture and I don’t think that Yemen didn’t develop economically because of the fact that khat is a drug, no!

Its something else …it’s the atmosphere around it, by leaving the job in the middle of the day, buying khat and until the Event itself, that you are sitting and chewing khat.
